Marine fish with regularly ossified skeleton. The maximum length is 65 cm, although the common length is about 40 cm. In the dorsal fin they have 6 to 7 spines and 32 to 35 soft rays, whereas in the anal fin they have two spines and 22 to 25 soft rays.
