Marine fish with regularly ossified skeleton. Fusiform, elongated and somewhat compressed body, of almost circular section. Short snout, with slightly superior mouth, provided with a single row of teeth in each jaw. Fine fins, except caudal fin. Color: silver, somewhat greeninsh or bluish on the back. It measures up to 38 cm.
