Flat bony fish of oval body and laterally compressed. Head small, bluntly pointed. Eyes on the ocular face of the body. Oblique mouth. Caudal peduncle distinct. Pectoral fins filamentous. Colour: ocular side pale brown. Darker pigmentation on upper and lower lips; inside of mouth dark. It can measure up to 21 cm.
